Time Period: 2025 - 2026
Salary: 3,000 KES per class
* the same rate applies for Inuka events that the Teaching Artist and their students may participate in
Position Summary: The Teaching Artist works hands-on with youth through Inuka’s School and Community Program throughout Nairobi teaching Dance, Theater or Martial Arts classes. As ambassadors of Inuka, Teaching Artists are expected to embody our culture of welcome and carry Inuka’s values into the venues where they teach. Teaching Artists are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism in terms of artistic mastery and administrative responsibility. Classes may include instruction in one or more of the following disciplines:
Dance
Breakdance
Ballet
Cultural dance
Contemporary/Modern
Theater/Performance
Martial Arts
Gymnastics
The teaching artist is also expected to attend Inuka’s annual graduation ceremony which typically happens the first or second Saturday of December. For school-based programs that run for a full semester or longer, the Teaching Artist may be asked to bring her/his students to perform at the graduation ceremony or other Inuka events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach dance, theater or martial arts classes
Keep attendance for the classes and ensure that attendance is logged in the appropriate google spreadsheet or another format if needs be
Maintain regular communication with school administrators
Along with the Program Manager, organize students for off-site activities if and when the teaching Artist’s students are invited to participate
Attend quarterly trainings over the course of the year
Maintain regular communication with Inuka Co-Directors about program needs and/or challenges that may arise
Organize program supplies with the Program Manager
Attend off-site activities as needed
